July's Birthstone

and the stone for

The 15th and 40th wedding anniversaries

Colors range from a light red to a deep, pure red color. The most desirable color is an intense pure red with a hint of blue. If the color is to pale, thay are nolonger called rubys, but pink sapphires

Found chiefly in Myanmar, Thailand, and in Sri Lanka. The Myanmarese stones are blood red, the most valued tint being the "pigeon blood". Star rubys, ( those that show an internal star-shaped formation ) when cut in cabochon ( rounded top ), are rare.

Moderately expensive to very expensive.  The brightest red rubys are the most valuable

It was believed that the wearer of a ruby was blessed with health, wealth and wisdom and outstanding success in affairs of the heart.  The Ruby should adorn, all those who are born in July. Many people associate its brilliant crimson colors with passion and love, making the ruby an idle engagement ring.
